Anthony's letters
Raiford USA, January 2014
Dearest friends and supporters,
Happy 2014 to everyone! I want you all to know that I was with you all throughout the holiday season and especially on Christmas day in my thoughts, heart and prayers. I wholeheartedly appreciate each individual card I received for Christmas. Even though I didn’t have visitors for Christmas, I knew I was not alone as I read each Christmas card. I am so grateful for your compassion, support and loving kindness. Thank you all for caring about me and standing by me. Your friendship and support makes a huge difference and lifts my soul especially during Christmas. As most of you know I lost my only son and grandmother a few days after Christmas in 2006. It is challenging to maintain a positive mindset during this period because I miss their physical presence in my life. However, I do realize that life doesn’t stand still, and that I am truly blessed to have friends and supporters to keep me strong, focused and hopeful.
The year 2013 was full of challenges for me. I endured physical injuries. The Florida Supreme Court denied my appeal. The longevity of this fight for justice challenged some of my friendships. And there were communication problems between legal representation and me. I was knocked down by blows of adversity in 2013, but never gave up and got back up again. Nelson Mandela wasn’t perfect, but I admire how he changed and evolved into a positive person. And he said it best when he said, “Difficulties break some men, but make others.” Indeed I have overcome a lot in 2013, but I didn’t do it alone. My faith in God leads the way, and the strength I received from the love of my friends and supporters helped me weather the storms. You are not just members of the association to me; you are friends and family to me.
I want to share some positive legal news with you all. On Tuesday December 17th I had a long meeting with my lawyer and investigator. We had a very productive meeting. We have resolved communication issues and put together an impressive legal strategy. My Federal Petition that is held in Federal Court will continue to be held in abeyance. That means my federal appeal will be put on hold while we file new claims back in State Court. We have two solid, factual based claims, and very likely a third claim depending on the outcome of a new investigation to file in State Court. The investigation is ongoing, and therefore confidential for now. But as soon as everything has been filed in State Court, I will explain in detail the facts of the investigation and the claims. But I can say that the Florida Supreme Court written opinion opened up a door for me to file these new claims and the prosecutor’s case against me is starting to crumble. Each time I have appealed, the prosecutor would create a “scheme” to overcome the issue on my appeal. The prosecutor has basically lied so much until he has dug himself into a hole. There is much to be done in the next few weeks.
Through Thierry Bizebard (president of the association), I will keep you all updated as matters unfold. I will also find out more about legal fees next month. For the next legal process, my lawyer has agreed to represent me for free, but I will still have to pay investigative fees, Court fees, expert fees and traveling fees. So raising funds is still very important in order to execute our legal strategies. Please don’t lose hope and don’t give up. Nelson Mandela and many others were in prison a lot longer than I have been before they were finally freed. So I need all of you to stay strong. Continue to be supportive and tell others about our fight for justice and our association. Continue to pray, and use your creativity to organize fundraiser events. And continue to keep in touch with me because that keeps me in touch with the reality of what’s going on in the lifes of my friends. I care about you all and your loved ones and friends just like you care about me. Please stay strong and take good care of yourselves. I wholeheartedly thank each of you for what you are doing for me.
I am still strong and still confident that we will win the fight for justice.
Blessing to each of you.
Much respect and much love,
Anthony Mungin
