Letter from Anthony
Raiford USA, June 30th, 2020
To My Dear Friends and Supporters,
I hope this letter finds everyone feeling healthy and doing fine. I want you all to know that I'm healthy and doing fine, too. This has been a very challenging year for all of us. Covid 19 took the world by surprise and basically changed our way of living. At the start of the stay at home Orders many of my friends experienced "confinement" for the very first time. Even though you were "confined" in your homes, the normal sense of freedom to come and go as you please was taken away by degree.
During that time I thought of you all a lot. I prayed a lot for you! I know it isn't easy to deal with unexpected circumstances that results in the revoke of your liberty. After awhile it becomes mentally exhausting to maintain optimism. To a small degree, many who were confined to their homes during the Stay At Home Order, got a small taste of what it has been like for me for the last 28 years on death row, confined in a small concrete and iron cell. Your home confinement lasted for a couple of months, whereas my prison confinement on death row has lasted for 28 years! But, just like family, relatives, friends and neighbors helped you all to stay strong and believe in the hope of better tomorrows, you all have helped me stay strong and to keep fighting for justice and to believe in a brighter future.
So many of you have asked me, "How do you stay so strong, positive-minded and confident, Anthony?" Well, my friends, the same way you all stayed strong throughout the stay at home order! Encouragement, support and all kind of acts of love from family, relatives, friends, neighbors, and many prayers! The strengthening of my faith comes from witnessing the blessings God, who has blessed me with through family, friends and supporters like you all! The lesson I got out of all this is: As long as we unite and stand together nothing can destroy our kind! So, I encourage you all to unite and continue to support each other throughout this ordeal. Continue to use common sense and exercise patience. Their is nothing more precious and valuable than human life, not even the economy!
At the moment my lawyer and I are awaiting the decision from the Florida Supreme Court on my Motion for Rehearing that was filed late February 2020. Keep praying and believing for a positive ruling. Perhaps the sudden shift of Americans mentality, due to worldwide protest, regarding police brutality and judicial systematic racism will compel the FSC to carefully review the pending Motion for Rehearing objectively, without prejudice and legalistic favoritism.
Meanwhile, I am asking everyone to stay on board in this fight for justice! I'm strong and still confident we will prevail. I'm still working hard reviewing files and case laws. I'm currently awaiting the investigator to send more files she obtained so I can thoroughly review them myself. Thank you for all your love and support and extraordinary friendships.
